Happy Wednesday Friends!
I’ve had so many cute things on IG lately I felt like I needed to do another round up for ya’ll.
So those of you following me on Snapchat (jaimeshrayber) saw my experience with a resale shop yesterday, but for those of you who missed it, I am going to recap. I few weeks ago I wrote a post on giving my advice on closet purging (here) and mentioned that I had never used a resale shop. Well, since we have moved, I have done some major closet cleaning and decided it was time to try the resale shop. The first one I went to today was called Plato’s Closet. Worst experience! They were so rude, went through my 2 HUGE boxes of things and basically said I didn’t have enough brands like Forever 21. I’m just curious, how do you resale something from Forever 21 when you most likely paid under $30 for it? Trust me, I have founds some amazing things at Forever 21 through the years, but never thought to resale it. Anyway, they had a sister shop next door called The Clothes Mentor. I was about to just say forget it, but before I slid, not carried my 40 pound massive 2 boxes over there, I went in and told them the situation. I could tell right away it was a step above the last place and they were happy to help me even carry my boxes in. I had to wait about an hour, but I ended up with about $140. Not nearly as much as I thought but I guess it’s better than nothing? I laughed to myself when I asked how they determine what they are keeping and they said “we go off of the latest trends” I wanted to quiz them on what they considered the latest trends but decided to keep my mouth shut π
Anyway, as I mentioned in my Closet Purge post and re-confirmed today, I would keep those old high ticket items tucked away in your closet, because these resale shops want things that are less than 2 years old, and they barely give you anything per item. I recommend them if you have nothing to lose and you were going to donate anyway. I wouldn’t take an item there in hopes that you would actually make something decent from it.
Hope that helps!
